Aaron McKenna

Aaron McKenna is a senior software engineer and consultant at McKenna Consultants, contributing to client projects across the company's core specialisms. Aaron joined the team after completing a degree in Computer Science and has spent his career building production software for SaaS vendors, regulated enterprises and international engineering firms — the kinds of organisations where reliability, security and long-term maintainability matter more than novelty. Aaron works most often on Microsoft document integration projects: WOPI implementations through the Microsoft Cloud Storage Partner Program, SharePoint Embedded integrations for SaaS vendors that need to embed Office editing inside their own applications, and Office Add-In development for Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. He also contributes to the firm's Composable Commerce engagements on Elastic Path, and to its growing AI consultancy practice — particularly the engineering side of building enterprise AI agents and integrating large language models into existing business systems. Like the rest of the McKenna team, Aaron is a working programmer first. He writes code on every project he is involved in, leads technical design sessions with client engineering teams, and pairs with junior developers to raise the standard of the codebases we hand back. He contributes to the company blog on topics including WOPI, SharePoint Embedded, Microsoft Office Add-In development, Composable Commerce architecture and the practical realities of integrating AI into existing software. McKenna Consultants has been delivering revenue-generating, time-saving and life-changing bespoke software development from Harrogate, North Yorkshire since 2004, and Aaron is part of the senior team that continues that work today.
